Panhandle Habitat for Humanity Committees - Please call our main phone number to contact a Committee Chairperson

Idaho Panhandle Habitat for Humanity has seven standing committees and is always seeking interested people to become involved with the work of the affiliate. The Building Committee is responsible for the actual construction of homes, by coordinating labor, materials, and family interests to come up with some simple decent homes. Building works with site selection and family selection on evaluating potential work sites. It identifies a budget and workscope for each project. Materials acquisition, cost evaluations, designs & construction development are focuses of the committees. We also seek to develop skilled volunteers to coordinate the workcamps & construction on each of the sites.
(Committee chairperson – George Mundell )

Family Selection Committee invites families to apply for home ownership and coordinates the review process of the family and their application. Family orientation, credit review, and home visits are part of the process. Once a family is selected, the committee assigns one of its members to be a family liaison responsible for assisting the family in achieving their sweat equity requirement, going through credit counseling if necessary, and in general, assisting the family with understanding their responsibilities. This liaison continues working with the family after they move into their new home and until the family is ready to have the house deeded to them.
(Committee Co- chairperson – Kate Akers and Jo Johnson )

Fundraising Committee raise the monies necessary to build the homes and run to the organization. The committee organizes a fundraising strategy and initiates contract with foundations and corporations by writing grant proposals. It solicits businesses to work with the Affiliate in our goal of eliminating poverty housing. The Covenant Church program is a function of the committee, appealing to churches for their support.
(Committee chairperson – Don Ludwig )

The Hospitality committee is responsible for human resource development, spiritual growth, and community building. That means that we help recruit volunteers and guide them in finding their place within ministry of habitat. We plan for opportunities of prayer, inspiration, and worship. We are responsible for feeding workgroups. Celebration and appreciation of volunteers is also ours to do. Overall, we work to undergird the inspiration of the people involved.
(Committee chairperson – Barbara Swift)

The Newsletter Committee is responsible for keeping the public informed as to the work of Panhandle Habitat for Humanity. It publishes a quarterly newsletter.
(Committee chairperson – Dorothy Hall)

The Public Relations committee seeks to share the Habitat vision with as many people as possible. Through presentations to churches, schools, civic clubs, and the media, we spread the message of habitat.
(Committee chairperson – Jim Payne)

The Site Selection committee identifies and coordinates the evaluation of potential project sites. The committee researches potential properties’ owners and how to acquire sites. They work with Family Selection and Building to make sure property is worth pursuing and meets the needs of the affiliate. They handle closings and deed transfers.
(Committee chairperson – John Hall)
