Issues

If elected, Cary Kelly will provide:

Leadership: To ensure county government will work together to give the best possible services to the public in a friendly, polite, professional manner - never forgetting that the County works for the people, not the other way around. Protecting individual rights should be one of the key aspects of County Government.

Fiscal Responsibility: The County Commissioners should pass a balanced budget without raising property taxes - and reduce spending where possible. Commissioners should set spending limits for department heads, and then let them figure out how to operate within those limits. Projected revenues will dictate those limits. Spending priorities should be those services impacting public safety and then public roads.

Limited Government: County government should continue to strive to ensure state and federal coordination of all their activities that might affect Bonner County residents. Examples of such activities are: Lake Pend Oreille fluctuating winter lake level, and the western caribou wilderness habitat designation. Also, personal property rights need to be safeguarded against state and federal encroachment.

In addition, county government needs to continually review County Codes and the Comprehensive Plan to ensure property rights are adequately protected.
