About Us

Well, we hope the 'us' includes 'you' by now! There's no formal group behind Feel the Hunger. The day to share the experience of hunger was an idea that Eric Rust, pastor at Cedar Hills Church in Sandpoint, Idaho, came up with in the autumn of 2010. For the first Feel the Hunger Day, Eric recruited a few other like-minded individuals to put the word out. This website was donated by Keokee, a media and marketing outfit in Sandpoint.

The first Feel the Hunger Day was Dec. 8, 2010, started as a community event circulated mainly around residents in Sandpoint, Idaho. The effort gained local publicity; click to read the three front-page news stories on Feel the Hunger Day published in the local Daily Bee newspaper on Nov. 24, 2010, Dec. 3, 2010 and Dec. 5, 2010. As well, there were stories in the Sandpoint Reader, Spokane Spokesman-Review, an interview program on the local 1400 AM KSPT and items and links on Sandpoint Online. Organizers believe a couple hundred people took part in the first Feel the Hunger Day by eating only half a cup of rice that day - but the goal of raising awareness was also served through the media coverage that reached many thousands.
