2008 Garden Tour

June 29 from 10 am to 4 pm. Price $10 for adults, children are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Bonner County Extension Office. Tickets will also be available at each garden the day of the tour.

Gardens on the Tour:

"Window To Their World" - John Sidwell and Paula Marcinko
405 Lake Street, Sandpoint
Colorful windows adorn the fences surrounding John and Paula's outdoor living space. Tucked into a corner is a welcoming and restful outdoor living room, complete with a couch. Follow the slate paths to explore the many raised beds, while being on the lookout for the cleverly used unique yard art.

"Moon Alley Garden" - Doug and Sandra Fraser
408 Lake Street, Sandpoint
Doug and Sandra's yard backs up to an alley. They have designed and built structures complete with screens to provide themselves with privacy and a feeling of separation from the alley. Water features provide soothing sounds as you explore the varied beds found down pathways on both sides of the home. A cool lush shade garden delights one's senses.

"Hospice Healing Garden"
520 North 3rd Ave, Sandpoint
You get ideas galore at the beautiful garden complex, created for the community by volunteers for Bonner General Hospital and Hospice. An ongoing endeavor, the site encompasses perennials, annuals, a rose garden, a waterfall, and outstanding hardscaping along with a chapel and tea house. It's a lovely setting for those who seek solace in nature's beauty.

"Kona" - Lynnieb Billingsly
1716 Poplar Street, Sandpoint
This front yard garden has all the charm and relaxation of an Island retreat. Lynnieb has filled her yard with so many fun and lively elements it makes you smile just being there. From the ditch garden to raised beds and restful seating this garden will delight the playful spirit in us all.

"Backyard Friends Garden" - Helen Campbell
1506 Ponderosa Drive, Sandpoint
Helen's garden collection is the result of friends giving her starts from their own flower collections. These flowers are thriving from the compost that Helen has successfully created for them every year. Trees that were the size of blades of grass when they were acquired and planted, now offer much needed shade and beauty to this back yard retreat.

"Jail Garden"
4001 North Boyer, Sandpoint
This garden is the brainchild of Elaine Savage, our Bonner County Sheriff. A once-vacant field has now become the home of a productive garden. In addition to feeding the inmates, over 5,000 pounds of produce were grown and distributed to three local area food banks and two local charities in the first year alone. This project augments the jail food budget, teaches new skills to inmates and provides fresh food to area charities.

"Master Gardener Learning Garden"
4205 North Boyer, Sandpoint
Saved from becoming a parking lot, this little piece of ground located on the East side of the Bonner County Extension Office is now an open classroom for learning. This garden showcases different planting mediums, from the spuds grown in tires, cucumbers and squash grown in straw bales, a strawberry tower, herb barrels, raised beds, to the upside down tomatoes. Come sit on a stone bench and listen to the water flowing into a pond while gazing at a garden of which the bounty is donated to our local food bank.
