About the Master Gardener Program

Bonner County Master Gardeners receive instruction in a wide variety of horticultural topics taught by University of Idaho educators, horticultural professionals, and local experts. Master Gardeners can then apply this information with others in the community through a broad array of volunteer opportunities.

As a Master Gardener, not only will you receive this inital education, but be given the opportunity to continue your gardening education for as long as you wish. Also, you'll meet people in your community who share your gardening interests and have a lot of fun.

Contact Us!

For more information about joining the Master Gardener program, please contact us at the Bonner County Extension Office at the County Fair Grounds at 4205 North Boyer, or give us a call at 208-263-8511.

We look forward to meeting you!

The Plant Clinic

The Plant Clinic is staffed by Master Gardeners from 9-12 on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the growing season. Master gardeners help members of the community identify plants and insects and help them find solutions to garden problems.

Plant Clinic Form (PDF)

If you have a plant problem, please download the form by right-clicking the link below and choosing Save As. Print it out, complete it and then mail or bring the form to the Extension Office. Please be sure to fill out everything that is not marked "For Office Use Only." Your contact information is especially important, so that we can get back to you.

Note that you need to have the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the form. The Acrobat Reader is a free download available from Adobe's Website.

Samples

In many cases, it is helpful for the Master Gardeners to see samples.

  1. For Insect Identification: Please bring in several insects (10-20 is ideal). Put the insects in a breathable jar (a canning jar with cloth cover works well).

  2. Plant Identification: To ID a plant, we need to see the whole plant including the roots if it is small. If it is large, please bring in several branches. We must have a plant with flowers. If a fruit is available, please bring that in as well.

  3. Diseases & Plant Problems: The material should be wrapped in dry paper towels (unless it is large and woody) and placed in an open plastic bag. For plant problems, bring in sample of plant showing the damage. If you don't know what kind of plant it is, be sure to bring in a whole plant (see #3).
